I apologize for the silence, but I just can't take my eyes off these bluebonnets! Yes, I'm hanging out in a field between Houston and Austin, and because it's not often I get to see wildflowers such as bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush and DYFs (which stands for, according to my grandpa, "damn yellow flowers"), I'm going to savor the colors of a Texas springtime for a few more days. But I'll be back in the kitchen soon enough. In the meantime, why don't you have a seat next to me and enjoy the view!

Stop and smell the flowers

Hubby drove from our home in west Texas to the south Texas coast yesterday and said there where carloads upon carloads of people pulled off the side of the road taking taking wildflowers pictures. I *love* this time of year in Texas!!
Enjoy the rest of your visit home, and throw a wave my way as you fly back home.
P.S. - Gonna try your flour tortilla recipe this week.

I've been here all my life and drive by the same fields every day - I'm *still* always amazed each year at the wildflowers. We went on a "bluebonnet drive" last week, even - is there any better time than Spring in Texas? I think not :)

Wow! How truly beautiful! I'm not generally much of a homesick Texan myself, but these bluebonnets do give me that twinge. Well, of course, your food does too! My best friend and I (both DC transplants from TX) have a date next month to make your cheese enchiladas. We drooled over them together the day I discovered your blog.

Beautiful! A friend of mine (another expat Texan, by the way) drove from Houston to Austin the other day, and she sent me a wonderful description of the various flora she soaked up along the way. It's great to see a photo of the bluebonnets she mentioned.
...and what a killer view it is. I never am able to get home in the spring. This makes me totally homesick.

Ah, you make me miss the heaps of wildflowers in The Woodlands! We even have a Wildflower Festival there.
I only saw some once in Dallas last week. Blah.
The site of those bluebonnets makes this exiled Texas homesick. California just doesn't have anything like it.
Oh how I miss Texas spring! I was in Austin at the beginning of March and the bluebonnets were just about to blossom :( My dad has always called the yello flowers "yellow-bellies", which now also applies to every other flower ("purple-bellies", "red-bellies", etc)
