I apologize for the silence, but I just can't take my eyes off these bluebonnets! Yes, I'm hanging out in a field between Houston and Austin, and because it's not often I get to see wildflowers such as bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush and DYFs (which stands for, according to my grandpa, "damn yellow flowers"), I'm going to savor the colors of a Texas springtime for a few more days. But I'll be back in the kitchen soon enough. In the meantime, why don't you have a seat next to me and enjoy the view!

Hubby drove from our home in west Texas to the south Texas coast yesterday and said there where carloads upon carloads of people pulled off the side of the road taking taking wildflowers pictures. I *love* this time of year in Texas!!
Enjoy the rest of your visit home, and throw a wave my way as you fly back home.
P.S. - Gonna try your flour tortilla recipe this week.
beautiful!
Lovely. Sounds like you are enjoying the trip. Interesting how all the Texas blogs are going nuts over spring, but I can see why!
Hee, damn yellow flowers. Cute. It looks gorgeous where you are. Enjoy the spring! Come back soon!
Who could even think about blogging when there are fields of flowers to enjoy?! Relax, and refresh!
Welcome home!
I've been here all my life and drive by the same fields every day - I'm *still* always amazed each year at the wildflowers. We went on a "bluebonnet drive" last week, even - is there any better time than Spring in Texas? I think not :)
Ah! Spring in Texas!
Enjoy!
Oh, you make me an even MORE homesick Texan, and very glad that I get to go home soon! Look at those bluebonnets . . . *sigh* so gorgeous.
Wow! How truly beautiful! I'm not generally much of a homesick Texan myself, but these bluebonnets do give me that twinge. Well, of course, your food does too! My best friend and I (both DC transplants from TX) have a date next month to make your cheese enchiladas. We drooled over them together the day I discovered your blog.
Happy Spring!
Gladly, Lisa! I hope all is wonderful in Texas - it's certainly beautiful enough!
Bluebonnets. How I do miss them. Your silence is excused. I perfectly understand.
Haha! There were people pulled off Mopac here in Austin yesterday, taking pictures of the bluebonnets! Gotta love it!

Beautiful! A friend of mine (another expat Texan, by the way) drove from Houston to Austin the other day, and she sent me a wonderful description of the various flora she soaked up along the way. It's great to see a photo of the bluebonnets she mentioned.
...and what a killer view it is. I never am able to get home in the spring. This makes me totally homesick.
Thanks for sharing the beautiful view! Reminds me of the bluebells that will soon be in full bloom over here! Hope you're having a wonderful time!
Thanks for sharing. This is my first spring away from Texas, and I do miss it and all the beautiful flowers on the side of the road!
I hope you've enjoyed a little Texas sunshine...hope the pollen hasn't done you in!
Stop by the WhistleStop on your way home for a glass of sweettea.
Ah, you make me miss the heaps of wildflowers in The Woodlands! We even have a Wildflower Festival there.
I only saw some once in Dallas last week. Blah.
The site of those bluebonnets makes this exiled Texas homesick. California just doesn't have anything like it.
Oh how I miss Texas spring! I was in Austin at the beginning of March and the bluebonnets were just about to blossom :( My dad has always called the yello flowers "yellow-bellies", which now also applies to every other flower ("purple-bellies", "red-bellies", etc)
I love your blog and I nominated you for a Thinking Blogger award...

Stop, breathe, rest, and relax. There is nothing quite like Blue Bonnets in Texas.
I'm glad that you got a chance to see them again in person. Texas is happy to have you back, even if only for a fleeting period.
Safe travels back to NY.
Time to head out to the hill country.
Enjoy, Lisa. Enjoy!
Enjoy it, and don't hurry back to Gotham. We're having a second bout of winter here in NYC. :(
Oh, good heavens, that is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. So vivid, and the green of the leaves is as pretty as the flowers.
Everyone--thank you all so much! As much as I love blogging, sometimes it's good to take a break. Now if it would only stop snowing here in NYC!
You're not missing much - I'm in Texas for a long weekend, and it snowed here yesterday!
I just want to say that after reading your description of the refried beans at Las Manitas- I finally went there and they are amazing! I'm not normally a fan of refried beans, but I was seriously licking the plate for scraps. Thanks!
what a lovely image!
Awwww that makes me really homesick. I live in Austin but I am stuck out in California until May because of work. So I am missing all that really bad....boo.
Sounds like you had a great time and consumed a representative amount of Texas fare. Good food, your Mom, old friends, bluebonnets and hanging with Robb - not too bad a trip!!
